🧠 My Lived Experience: From HMS to HMP

Hear a raw and personal account of how childhood trauma and escapism led to a life-changing journey through the military, experiences of domestic abuse, and ultimately incarceration. This story of resilience will highlight the powerful impact of lived experience.

🧠 Criminal Justice System and Links to Crime

Understand the connections between trauma and criminality, how these patterns manifest, and the consequences of involvement in the criminal justice system. Gain insight into the ripple effects of trauma and abuse, and how they can lead to other forms of criminality.

🧠 Childhood Trauma and Hope in Recovery

Explore the long-term effects of childhood trauma and how it can influence life choices and mental health. Most importantly, discover the hope in recovery—how managing trauma and past experiences can lead to healing, and how to cultivate resilience and recovery in your own life.

About the Speaker:

Andy has battled a gambling addiction and compulsive behaviour since the age of 9, impacting many lives along the way. After serving in the Royal Navy from 1998 to 2011, Andy worked in a National League rugby club and in London, but his addiction led to fraud in 2016, culminating in a prison sentence in 2018. Although he earned a certificate in addiction counselling and other self-help qualifications, the addiction still had a grip on him after his release.

Now, after completing rehab at Gordon Moody and entering recovery, Andy is thriving and dedicated to helping others affected by addiction. His book, "HMS to HMP: 33 Years of Gambling Addiction," shares his personal journey to offer support to those struggling with addiction, as well as to professionals working in the field.
